MCP server for AI agents

Give Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client live AI API health and network probes. When a model call hangs or fails, your agent can check whether the provider is degraded, pick the fastest healthy one, or test a host from outside your network. Free, no key.

Endpoint: https://pingtest.si/mcp

Install

  • Claude Code

    claude mcp add --transport http pingtest https://pingtest.si/mcp
  • Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json)

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "pingtest": {
          "url": "https://pingtest.si/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  • VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json)

    {
      "servers": {
        "pingtest": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://pingtest.si/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  • Windsurf (mcp_config.json)

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "pingtest": {
          "serverUrl": "https://pingtest.si/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  • Claude and other apps with custom connectors

    Add a custom connector and paste https://pingtest.si/mcp as the server URL. No sign-in is needed.

Tools

  • get_ai_provider_status

    Current state, time to first token (p50/p95, last hour), uptime over 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days, the last probe and open official incidents for each provider.

    Ask: “Is Anthropic or OpenAI having problems right now? My calls keep returning 529.”

  • recommend_fastest_ai_provider

    Ranks the providers that are healthy right now by median time to first token, with the reason each other provider was skipped.

    Ask: “Which AI API is fastest right now? Leave out OpenAI.”

  • get_ai_provider_history

    Daily uptime, probe counts and average time to first token for one provider over 1 to 90 days, plus official incidents.

    Ask: “Was Gemini down at any point in the last week?”

  • probe_network_target

    TCP connect time, ICMP echo or DNS lookup speed for a public host, measured from our edge network. Private addresses are refused.

    Ask: “Can you reach api.example.com on port 443, and how fast does example.com resolve?”

Try it

These buttons send the same JSON-RPC request an MCP client sends to https://pingtest.si/mcp and show the raw response.

Things to ask your agent

  • Before you start the batch job, check which AI provider has the lowest time to first token right now.
  • My requests to Claude are timing out. Check whether the API is degraded before changing any code.
  • Is staging.example.com reachable on port 8443 from outside our network?
  • Show me DeepSeek uptime for the last 30 days and any incidents.

The same data is on the AI API status page and in the public JSON feed.

Enterprise & Pro monitoring

The free tier allows 20 tool calls per hour. Pro, Scale and Enterprise API keys add monthly allowances for agents and failover routing, plus alerts on your own endpoints.

Questions

What is an MCP server?

The Model Context Protocol lets AI assistants and coding agents call tools on other services. Add pingtest.si once and your agent can check AI API health and probe hosts on its own.

Do I need an API key?

No. The free tier needs no sign-up: each IP address can make 20 tool calls per hour (handshakes and tool lists are free), and probes also share the website limit of 20 per minute. Pro, Scale and Enterprise API keys add 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 tool calls a month; send the key as Authorization: Bearer <key>.

Where are measurements taken from?

From our own edge network, as continuous real-time telemetry. Time to first token is measured on one representative model per provider with a minimal reply, so it reflects network, queueing and startup latency, not answer quality.

Which protocol versions are supported?

Streamable HTTP at https://pingtest.si/mcp, protocol 2026-07-28 (stateless, server/discover) and the earlier 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26 revisions with the initialize handshake.

Do you store the hosts I probe?

No. Probe targets are checked against our private-address rules, measured and returned. They are not saved.
